Drift Supercup Format

  • Pro Class- Drivers will have lots of experience and competed at a high level in either state or nationals events.
  • Street Class- Drivers will have some experience at state or national level, or have participated in practice sessions or Matsuri.

It will keep its status as a National Drift Competition and encourage interstate competitors with a very attractive travel subsidy (see below).

Other events on the day will be the Just Car Insurance Exteme Entry Comp, Drift Attack, Team Drift & the Drift Snake Challenge. Details below..

Extreme Entry Comp
An old favorite will be back
. Just Car Insurance are again on board as a major sponsor of Drift Supercup and will be the presenting partner of the Extreme Entry trophy.

Each Drift Supercup entrant will have a chance of pulling of the most extreme entry of the day and taking home the trophy. How does it work? Simple. One shot at turn 1. The judged most ‘Extreme’ takes home the goods.

Drift Attack
Similar to Time Attack, but with drift spec cars racing the clock and having to drift between ‘cones’ around at least two nominated corners.

Entrants will need to nominate on their entry forms their participation.

The format of the feature is simple – Each driver will navigate a predetermined three (3) corners/cones on the track, and be required to complete the section in the fastest possible time.  They must however do the section whilst drifting!  The traditional judging format would not be used – in its place a simple ‘Red’ flag – ‘Green’ flag system.  This system is based around the three judges watching a corner each – they will raise a green flag is the corner is drifted….or a red flag if it’s not.

*NOTE – The key here is that no specific style of Drift is mandated….only the corner be drifted however the driver chooses to do it.

In order for the time to count – two green flags must be present.  Each driver will get three passes at the course, and the fastest time over the three runs will count as their best time.

The feature begins with a Warm Up Lap, where the crowd is introduced to each participant as they cycle through the designated section of track.  All drivers and cars are then held as a group at the ‘Drift Attack’ start line area.  At approximately 2 minute intervals each car is released for one run…..one time….winner takes home the goods!

There will be a winner from Street & Pro Class!

Drift Snake Challenge
This feature gives interstate and local competitors in both Pro and Street Class a chance to face each other in a head to head group battle to determine the ‘master of the snake’.

This is done by utilizing the ‘Drift Snake’ driving format. There are only a limited number of spots in this section of the event. There will be 2 groups (‘The snakes’) in each class, with a maximum 8 in each group. Entrants will need to nominate their participation on their entry forms, with the first 16 from each class to nominate entered.

The feature is a very simple. All drivers nominated for this events (first 16 entrants from each class-entrants must nominate participation on the entry form) names are put into a hat and an initial running order is chosen (1st-8th).  This is the ‘Start’ order for the drift snake, and the drifted/judged section of the track is the traditional judged section.

The feature begins with a ‘Parade Lap’ where the crowd is introduced to the various State representatives.  All drivers and cars are then started from the traditional start line and are required to drift through the normal drift area in a tight proximity ‘Drift Snake’ format.   Once the cars are arranged in their running order, they are released as per normal.

The three Drift judges will then watch for any drivers not holding the Drift Snake together or failing to drift any corners.  Only the flow of the Drift Snake is assessed.

The judges will then radio down to the official holding the cars as to which drivers are to be eliminated.

No reason will be offered to the affected drivers at this point in time as to why they have been eliminated, as this will ensure the feature continues and flows.  The remaining cars then transit back to the start line to run again.  If the lead car has not been eliminated, it is moved to the back of the group – and as the laps are completed…..a new lead car is established with each passing lap.

Eventually, there will be just two cars remaining.  They will be required to battle each other in traditional tandem drift format to find a winner, with 2 runs alternating as lead car.

There will be a winner from Street & Pro Class!
